STORRS, Conn. — UConn Volleyball head coach Ellen Herman-Kimball has announced the addition of Maxwell Dunn as assistant coach, pending the successful completion of the university's employee onboarding process. Dunn comes to Storrs after two seasons at Stephen F. Austin State University, where he helped build one of the more successful stretches in Ladyjacks volleyball history.
Dunn spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons as a full-time assistant at SFA, contributing to a combined record of 47-17, an NIVC second-round appearance, an NCAA first-round appearance, and back-to-back Southland Conference regular season and tournament championships in 2025. Under his watch as the program's primary setter trainer and statistical analyst, SFA saw multiple All-Conference honorees each season, including 2025 SLC Tournament MVP Ilana De Assis and two-time All-Conference selection Katherine Holtman. Prior to SFA, Dunn served as first assistant at Siena College, where he led all logistics and operations while managing recruiting efforts both domestically and internationally.
"I couldn't be more excited to welcome Max to the UConn Volleyball family. He loves the game, works incredibly hard, and has been intentional about learning from some of the best coaches in our profession while gaining experience in nearly every aspect of a collegiate volleyball program. That combination of knowledge, humility, and relentless work ethic will bring immediate value to our student-athletes and staff. More importantly, his eagerness to learn, willingness to serve, and commitment to continuous growth make him a perfect fit as we continue to raise the standard and take the next step forward as a program."
A 2021 AVCA 30 Under 30 Beach Coach Award recipient, Dunn brings a well-rounded coaching profile that spans the technical, analytical, and operational sides of the game. He holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Indiana University and is currently completing his Master's in Kinesiology (Human Performance) at SFA. His expertise in tools such as VolleyAce, Volleymetrics, and Spiideo, combined with a hands-on approach to setter training and offensive system development, positions him to contribute immediately to the Huskies' staff.
" It is an honor to join the UConn Volleyball family," said Dunn. "I am incredibly grateful to Coach Ellen and Coach Lindsey for the opportunity to join their staff and contribute to this outstanding program. I am excited to hit the ground running and help bring Coach Ellen's vision for UConn Volleyball to life. I would also like to thank the players, staff, and administration at SFA for their support and the opportunities they have provided me over the past two years. I am excited for this next chapter and cannot wait to get to work. Go Huskies!"
