Huskies Score 3 in the 4th Quarter to Take Down Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. — UConn surged in the fourth quarter to secure a 4-2 victory over Quinnipiac with three goals scored in the final period.
The match began with both teams establishing their defenses, as Natalie McKenna took her position at goal for UConn. The opening quarter was marked by a series of fouls from both sides, with UConn committing three infractions. Despite a solid defensive start, they found themselves trailing after Mo Quaile scored for Quinnipiac at 13:07. The quarter concluded with Quinnipiac holding a 1-0 lead.
UConn leveled the score early in the second quarter with a goal from Lene Bunjes, assisted by Juana Garcia at the 20:03 mark. Despite multiple fouls, UConn maintained pressure against Quinnipiac. However, the opponents regained the lead with Francisca Eschoyez scoring off a penalty corner assisted by Cameron Brower at 26:27. The quarter concluded with Quinnipiac ahead 2-1.
In the third quarter, UConn sought to overturn the deficit but was met with resistance from Quinnipiac's defense. A key moment unfolded at 38:28 when Sol Simone earned a penalty corner, leading to a shot by Abby Davidson that was blocked. Despite further offensive attempts, including a notable shot by Milou Heuker at 41:37 and another by Pien Prins at 42:59, UConn could not find the back of the net. The quarter concluded with UConn trailing 2-1, with no additional goals scored.
UConn surged ahead in the fourth quarter with a decisive scoring run, beginning with Pien Prins netting a goal from a penalty corner assist by Sol Simone at 45:48, tying the game at 2-2. Following this, Abby Davidson capitalized on a subsequent penalty corner, scoring with an assist from Fien Hollander at 49:33 to give the Huskies a 3-2 lead. Olivia McKenna extended the lead to 4-2 with an empty net goal, assisted again by Simone at 54:31. UConn's defense held firm through frequent fouls from Quinnipiac, and the game concluded with UConn securing a 4-2 victory.
Olivia McKenna scored with her only shot on goal, making a notable impact for the team. Davidson netted the game-winning goal, converting one of her two shots on target. Hollander contributed with an assist, effectively setting up a scoring opportunity. Simone also added two assists, playing a crucial role in the team's offensive efforts.
The Huskies will now turn their attention to the postseason as they will face Old Dominion in the BIG EAST Tournament.
