Huskies Fall to No. 13 Creighton

STORRS, Conn. – UConn women's volleyball (15-6, 4-5 BIG EAST) was defeated by the Creighton Bluejays (17-5, 10-0 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon at the UConn Volleyball Center.
The first set began with a balanced exchange of points between the Huskies and Creighton. Emma Werkmeister demonstrated consistent scoring for UConn, contributing multiple kills throughout the set. However, Creighton's offense, led by Annalea Maeder, gained momentum midway through the set. A significant turning point occurred when Abbey Hayes served consecutive points, extending Creighton's lead from 16-15 to 21-15. Despite the Huskies' efforts to close the gap, Creighton sealed the set at 25-19.
Creighton secured the second set with a 25-22 victory over UConn, maintaining control through a series of critical plays. After an initial exchange of points, Creighton capitalized on the Huskies' attack errors to build a 7-3 lead. UConn attempted a late rally, with Werkmeister contributing consecutive kills to narrow the gap to 24-22. However, Creighton clinched the set with Kiara Reinhardt's decisive kill. This win gave the Bluejays a two-set advantage in the match.
Creighton took control in the third set, opening with a 4-0 run. The Huskies managed to get on the board with a kill by Werkmeister, but Creighton quickly extended their lead to 8-1 with service aces from Ava Martin. Despite efforts from Audrey Rome, who recorded two kills, UConn struggled to close the gap, trailing 15-6. Creighton's strong serving continued as Annalea Maeder and Ava Martin added more aces, bringing the score to 22-7. Jaya Johnson's final kill secured a 25-7 victory for Creighton in the third set.
Werkmeister led the team with 11 kills and added one block assist, finishing with 11.5 points. Doga Kutlu facilitated the offense with 18 assists and contributed five digs. Rome was effective at the net, recording four blocks and tallying four kills. Grace Maria added three digs to the defensive effort and registered two assists.

UConn returns to action on Sunday, October 26 as the Huskies are set to host the Providence Friars at the UConn Volleyball Center beginning at 1:00pm. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
