INDIANAPOLIS - The UConn baseball team (29-21, 14-4 BIG EAST) travels to Butler (20-32, 5-13 BIG EAST) to play its final regular season series of the season. The series opener begins Thursday, May 16 at 3 p.m. with game two on Friday at 3 p.m. and the series finale at 1 p.m. on Saturday. All three games will be video streamed on FloSports and can be heard on MIXLR.Â
The Huskies enter the final series of the year with a one-game lead on St. John's in the BIG EAST standings. The magic number for UConn is at two meaning two wins this series for the Huskies would clinch the fourth-straight BIG EAST regular season title for the Huskies and clinch the No. 1 seed at the BIG EASt Championship next week at Prasco Park.Â
Both the Huskies and Bulldogs are coming off series wins with UConn taking a home series against Creighton, while the Bulldogs went on the road and won two-of-three against Villanova.Â
UConn also enters the series with 29 wins on the year. With one victory, the Huskies would win their 30th game of the season for the ninth consecutive season and the 17th time doing so under 21st year head coach Jim Penders.
Carter Dorighi leads the Butler offense and is fourth in the country with 87 hits. His hit total has already set a single-season record for the Bulldogs. Dorighi leads the BIG EAST with a .380 batting average and also leads with 54 runs scored and 130 total bases.Â
Freshman Kade Lewis is second in the BIG EAST with a .371 batting average and hits with 72.Â
UConn starter Garrett Coe enters the weekend tied for the BIG EAST lead with eight victories and is one strikeout away from tying for the league lead with 79 strikeouts (Ryan Reich). Coe (87.2 IP) and teammate Stephen Quigley (69.2 IP) are the top-two pitchers in innings pitched in the BIG EAST.
The Huskies are 8-1 all-time against Butler with a 5-1 mark since rejoining the BIG EAST in 2021. Last year, the Huskies won the series in Storrs but dropped the series finale to the Bulldogs.Â
