Softball set for Opening Weekend

STORRS, Conn. – UConn softball (10-11) opens their BIG EAST slate this weekend at home as they welcome the DePaul Blue Demons to Burrill Family Field. TICKETS
The Huskies are coming into the weekend riding a six game winning streak and coming off an undefeated weekend in Hawaii. Statistically, UConn ranks towards the top of the BIG EAST in all offensive categories, ranking first in doubles (33) and stolen bases (38). On the pitching side, the Huskies lead the BIG EAST with 144 strikeouts.
Junior infielder Rosie Garcia has been red hot at the plate for the Huskies. In her last six games, she is hitting .412 with a .882 slugging percentage, driving in nine runs with a pair of home runs. Garcia was named BIG EAST Player of the Week for her performance last weekend in Hawaii.
Junior outfielder Lexi Hastings has been a constant at the top of the Huskies lineup all season long. She leads the team with 25 hits, 20 runs scored, 13 stolen bases, and nine multi-hit games. She is currently riding an eight game hitting streak coming into the weekend.
UConn's pitching staff has been led by three seniors this season in Meghan O'Neil, Hallie Siems, and Payton Kinney. O'Neil leads the staff with fifteen appearances in the circle, holding in 2.58 era with 47 strikeouts. Siems owns a 5-3 record this season with 53 strikeouts in 51.1 innings pitched. Kinney is 2-2 so far, tallying 22 strikeouts in 20.1 innings pitched, holding opponents to a .211 batting average.
DePaul (6-16) is coming off a series win over Georgetown at home. The Blue Demons are led by graduate senior Brooke Johnson who leads the team in almost every offensive category. DePaul leads the all-time series 11-17 with the Blue Demons winning last seasons series.
The first game of the series is set for Friday, March 15 at 3:00pm. Game two is on Saturday, March 16 at 1:00pm. The series finale will be on Sunday, March 17 at 12:00pm. All games will be streamed on FloSoftball. WATCH
