Huskies Fall Short to Mercer Sunday On the Road

MACON, Ga. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team fell short to Mercer, 5-2 on the road in Georgia Sunday afternoon.
The Huskies are now 7-6 overall. To begin the match, UConn faced challenging doubles teams as Mercer would take the doubles point at the second and third doubles spots. Then, in singles the Bears would round off four additional singles points at the first, third, fifth, and sixth singles positions.
"This was a very good match with a strong Mercer team today," said tennis head coach Glenn Marshall. "They were a little bit tougher than us with the conditions of playing outside with wind and sun, after coming off our indoor season. We had some bright spots with Maria winning both her matches in doubles and singles, and Caroline winning a nice three set match in singles as well. Overall, the team competed well, and every match was close."
Junior Maria Constantinou led the way in a tough match extending her singles record to 6-5 at the second singles position and then winning her doubles match with teammate Olivia Wright, pushing their doubles record to 4-4 at the first doubles position. Also, first year Caroline Hinshaw fought her way to a three-set victory at fourth singles dropping the first set 6-4, then coming storming back going 6-4, 10-7. Hinshaw is now 8-5 in singles.
