Softball falls in weekend finale at Clemson Classic

CLEMSON, S.C. – UConn softball (4-11) dropped another heartbreaker on Sunday morning, losing 7-6 to Miami (OH) on another walk off hit.
Hallie Siems made her ninth start of the season for the Huskies in the circle. She went 4.0 innings giving up five runs on five hits, matching her season high in strikeouts with seven (UCF 2/10).
Miami got off to a fast start scoring four runs in the first three innings with three runs coming via the home run.
UConn trimmed into the deficit in the fourth inning off the bat of Hope Jenkins. She hit a two run home run to left field, her second of the year, making it 4-2.
Miami extended their lead with a solo home run in the fourth inning, making it 5-2.
UConn's offense came to life in the fifth inning scoring three runs on four hits. Grace Jenkins got it started with a double to left center, scoring Savannah Ring and Lexi Hastings. Hope Jenkins tied the game at five later in the inning with a groundout to score her sister, Grace from third base.
Meghan O'Neil came on in relief for Siems in the fifth inning. O'Neil finished out the game in the circle going 2.0 innings giving up three hits, and one earned run with two strikeouts.
UConn took their first lead of the game in the sixth inning off the bat of Grace Jenkins. She singled to first base scoring, Haley Coupal from third base. Jenkins three RBI's in the game matches her season high (Campbell 2/16).
Miami responded with another solo home run in the bottom half of the sixth inning tying the game at six.
Miami went on to hit a walk off single in the bottom of the seventh inning, handing the Huskies their second straight walk off loss.
Up Next:
UConn returns to action on Thursday, March 7 at the Rainbow Wahine Classic at the University of Hawaii. The Huskies will play Cleveland State, New Mexico, and Hawaii in the four day tournament.
