Softball heads to Hawaii for Rainbow Wahine Classic

HONOLULU, Hawaii – UConn softball (4-11) travels to the University of Hawaii this week to compete in the Rainbow Wahine Classic featuring matchups with Cleveland State, New Mexico, and the host school, Hawaii.
So far this season the Huskies offense has scored 54 runs, averaging 3.60 runs per game. UConn has gotten contributions from the top of the lineup starting with Grace Jenkins who leads the Huskies with a .378 batting average this season, tallying six doubles and 13 runs batted in. Following Jenkins is Lexi Hastings who is hitting .306 through the first 15 games of the season. Hastings has scored a team high 16 runs this season with two home runs and adding ten stolen bases. Jana Sanden has shown off her power so far this season with a team high four home runs and 15 runs batted in.
Hope Jenkins is coming off a red hot weekend at the plate in the Clemson Classic. In those four games alone, Jenkins had four hits all of which were extra base hits, three doubles, and one home run. For the season, Jenkins has driven in six runs, with two homers, holding an impressive .545 slugging percentage.
The Huskies pitching staff has been led by a pair of seniors in Hallie Siems and Meghan O'Neil. Siems leads the staff with 40.2 innings pitched and 37 strikeouts. O'Neil has been dominant in relief for the Huskies holding a 3.11 era in 27 innings pitched with 30 strikeouts.
UConn opens the weekend on Thursday with a doubleheader starting with Cleveland State (3-6) at 4:30pm EST and then New Mexico (6-16) at 7:00pm EST. The Huskies return on Friday with another doubleheader starting at 6:00pm EST against New Mexico. UConn matches up with the host school Hawaii (4-11) in the second game on Friday starting at 8:30pm EST. The Huskies will close out the weekend with a pair of matchups with Cleveland State on Saturday and Sunday with both start times slated for 6:00pm EST.
