Softball set for Marucci Classic this weekend

RALEIGH, N.C. – The UConn softball team (2-4) heads to NC State this weekend to play in the Marucci Classic hosted by NC State.
The Huskies are coming off their opening weekend at the University of Central Florida. Senior pitcher Hallie Siems has made an immediate impact with the Huskies. In her first weekend in a UConn uniform she struck out nine across 15.1 innings pitched, holding batters to a .193 batting average. Her performance over the weekend earned her BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honors. The reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, Grace Jenkins has had a great start to her sophomore campaign. The California native drove in five runs in six games last weekend, holding an impressive slash line of .375/.563/.476. Jenkins has reached base safely in all six games this season and is riding a four game hitting streak. She was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll this week. Outfielder Lexi Hastings has also had a hot start to her junior season. Through six games this season, she leads the country with nine stolen bases. Her nine runs scored rank third in all of Division I.
UConn will open the tournament on Friday with two games starting with Elon at 12:00pm. The Huskies are 1-1 all time against Elon. UConn will play Campbell in their second game of the day. First pitch is set for 7:30pm. The Huskies are 10-2 all time against Campbell.
On Saturday, UConn is set to face the host school, NC State at 2:30pm. The game will be streamed on ESPN+. This is the first ever meeting between the Huskies and Wolfpack. UConn will play Campbell again at 7:30pm on Saturday evening.
UConn closes out the weekend on Sunday morning against North Dakota State. First pitch is set for 9:30am. This is the first ever meeting between the two programs.
