Huskies Set To Play In San Diego Invitational

STORRS, Conn. - UConn women's volleyball returns to action this weekend as they will travel to San Diego, California for the University of San Diego Invitational.
The invitational kicks off Friday sept. 9 with a matchup against no.15 San Diego. The Huskies will then prep to face Utah and SMU on Saturday sept. 10.
The matchup between UConn and San Diego will be streamed on the WCC network.
Scouting San Diego
San Diego heads into the matchup vs. the Huskies with a 4-1 overall record. The Toreros have beaten two top 10 teams so far this season with their latest victory being a sweep over no.8 Ohio State. This will be the first ever matchup between UConn and San Diego.
San Diego is led by Grace Frohling who in five matches played has 61 total kills. The Toreros also are led by Gabby Blossom who leads the teams with 196 total assists.
Scouting Utah
Utah enters the weekend posting a 4-2 overall record, with their latest victory being a 3-0 sweep over Bradley. The only losses by Utah have come against no.11 Purdue and no.23 Kansas. This will be the first ever matchup between the Huskies and the Utes.
Utah is led by Madelyn Robinson who has 98 total kills and is averaging four kills per set. Additionally, the Utes are led by Emily Smith who has 215 total assists and is averaging 10 assists per set.
Scouting SMU
SMU heads into the invitational posting a 5-1 overall record and is on a three-game winning streak with their latest wins being over Indiana and Texas A&M- Corpus Christi. The Huskies and Mustangs have previously played 12 times with SMU being victorious in all 12. The last matchup was October of 2019 which ended with a 3-0 sweep over the Huskies.
The Mustangs are led by Jamison Wheeler who has 83 total kills in six matches played while averaging four kills per set. In addition, SMU is led Celia Cullen who has 193 total assists while averaging 11 assists per set.

The Huskies will return home as they prepare to host the Dog Pound Challenge. The Dog Pound Challenge will begin Friday September 16 and will conclude September 17.
