SAN DIEGO, California – UConn women's volleyball falls to no.12 San Diego in the opening match of the San Diego Invitational.
San Diego started the game firing on all cylinders as their offensive and defensive gameplan would prevent UConn from creating long rallies and going on scoring runs. Senior Caylee Parker and Madi Whitmire would not go down without a fight as they would connect multiple times to keep the Huskies in the set. The San Diego attack would prove to be too strong for the Huskies and the Toreros would take set one by a final of 25-15.
San Diego would pick up right where they left off as they would jump out to a 7-2 lead before Caylee Parker would put down a thunderous kill to kickstart the Huskies offense. Through two sets Caylee Parker would continue to try her best to will UConn back into the game, however San Diego's offense would not let up as they would register 14 kills on 24 total attempts to take set two by a final score of 25-12.
UConn would come out firing in set three as they would jump out to an 11-7 lead forcing San Diego to take a timeout. The third set would go back and forth as both teams would trade blows. San Diego would eventually take a 22-19 lead forcing UConn to take a timeout. The Huskies would not go down without a fight as they would go on a three-point run forcing the Toreros to call a timeout.
