Huskies Strong on Home Courts

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's tennis team wrapped their second-straight weekend of competition on their home courts to open the fall, hosting the UConn Invitational. The Huskies took on Bryant, Wesleyan and Sacred Heart in a blind dual match tournament and finished the weekend going 12-5 in singles and winning eight of the nine doubles matches played.
Freshman Cameron Didion (Orlando, FL) had a perfect 3-0 weekend in singles play to lead the Huskies. Didion beat Bryant's Jasmine Caballero, 7-5, 6-0, Wesleyan's Katie Fleischman in three sets, 6-2, 1-6 and 10-8, and closed out the weekend with a win over SHU's Renee Sharma, 6-2, 7-6.
Sophomore Olivia Wright (Glen Allen, VA) was unbeaten on the weekend, going 2-0 in singles and teaming classmate Isbel Petri-Bere (Lund, Sweden) for three doubles wins. Wright beat Sarah Hickey of Bryant, 6-3 and 6-2, and Wesleyan's Nika Vesely, 7-5, 6-2.
Junior Aleksandra Karamyshev (Ashton, MD) and sophomore Maria Constantinou (Nicosia, Cyprus) teamed for three doubles wins and both twice in singles play as well.
The Huskies are back on the court this coming weekend, September 23-25, at the Army Invitational at West Point.
