Huskies Off to Strong Start After Quinnipiac Invite

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's tennis team got the fall season started this weekend in the Quinnipiac Invitational, taking place on the Huskies' home courts on campus in Storrs. UConn faced state rivals Fairfield and Quinnipaic along with Army in blind dual matches and posted a combined 23-6 record in singles and doubles action on the weekend.
"This was a great opening tournament for our team," stated Director of Tennis Glenn Marshall. "We were excited to get a chance to play competitive teams in a dual match tournament setting. I was very pleased with our play, and all four of our new players had their first wins as UConn Huskies. I look forward to their continued success."
Sophomore Isabel Petri-Bere (Lund, Sweden) went 3-0 in singles play and 2-1 on the doubles court this weekend. Junior Denise Lei (Setauket, NY) went 2-1 in singles play and went 3-0 in doubles in the event.
UConn newcomer Cameron Didion (Orlando, FL) finished her collegiate debut weekend unbeaten with a 3-0 record in singles and a 2-0 mark in doubles. Sophomore Maria Constantinou (Nicosia, Cyprus) got her first matches in a Husky and went unbeaten as well at 2-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles playing with junior Aleksandra Karamyshev (Ashton, MD).
Sophomore Oliva Wright (Glen Allen, VA) also made her UConn debut and went 2-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles play while classmate Nansi Toskova (Montreal, Quebec) went 2-1 in singles and 2-0 in doubles in her first weekend as a Husky.
