Huskies Prepare For Black Knight Invitational

STORRS, Conn. – UConn women's volleyball returns to action this weekend as they travel to West Point New York for the Army Invitational. The Huskies will face St. Francis Friday Sept. 2 to open the invitational and will play the University of Kansas and Army on Saturday Sept. 3.
The Huskies are coming off a 1-1 week which featured a loss to Penn State and a 3-0 sweep over Duquesne. Over the weekend, UConn was led by senior Allie Garland who was named to the All-Tournament team and finished the Penn State invitational with 16 total kills.
Scouting St. Francis
UConn is set to face St. Francis in the opening match of the invitational Friday Sept. 2 at 4pm. The two teams have only faced one time in their history with their last match being in 2016 which ended with a UConn victory in three sets.
St. Francis enters the year having been picked fifth in the NEC women's volleyball preseason poll. Currently sitting at 2-2 the Terriers have wins over the University of Hartford and St. Peters. The Terriers are led by Penelope Rivera who currently has 43 kills on the year and is averaging 3.50 points per set.
Scouting Kansas
In day two of the invitational, UConn is set to face off against no.20 Kansas. The Jayhawks currently sit at 3-0 on the year and are led by Camryn Turner who has 108 assists on the year, and Anezka Szabo who has 34 kills to start the season.
This will be the first meeting between UConn and Kansas.
Scouting Army
UConn will wrap up the invitational with a matchup against Army. UConn has faced the Black Knights one time, with their last matchup being in 2016 which ended with a UConn victory. Army enters the matchup currently at 0-3 with loses to the University of California, UC San Diego, and no. 25 San Diego State University.
The Black Knights are led by Diana Ethridge who has 116 total assists. In addition, Army has three athletes with 30 kills each.

Following the Black Knights Invitational, UConn will return home to prepare for a west coast road trip as they travel to San Diego for the University of San Diego Invitational which will take place September 9 and 10.
