WSOC Hosts No. 4 South Carolina on Thursday Night

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team (1-0-1) is gearing up for its home opener against No. 4 South Carolina (1-0-1) on Thursday, August 25 at 7 p.m. on FloSports.

It is the first time the Huskies will host a top-5 opponent in Storrs since playing No. 5 Florida State in 2015.

The Huskies are coming off a dominant 6-0 victory at Syracuse on Sunday afternoon. UConn had six different scorers including first career goals from Emma Zaccagnini, Chioma Okafor and Maddie Carroll.

Abbey Jones has scored in each of the Huskies first two matches and added an assist on opening weekend. Jones and Kaitlyn Mahoney each landed on the BIG EAST weekly honor roll while Lucy Cappadona took home BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

For UConn, it was the largest shutout for the Huskies since shutting out Providence, 6-0, in 2007.

Thursday's meeting will be the first meeting between the two programs and the Huskies first match against an SEC opponent since playing Ole Miss and Arkansas in 2018.
