Softball wins 7th straight game

Storrs, CT – UConn out muscles Rhode Island 12-8, and moves to 25-13 on the season.
Meghan O'Neil got the start in the circle for the Huskies. She went five scoreless innings only giving up two hits and struck out seven.
The Huskies jumped out in front in the first inning. Lexi Hastings came around to score on a Rams error making it 1-0. Olivia Sappington hit a bloop single to right field to bring Jana Sanden home making it 2-0.
UConn went on to extend the lead in the second, scoring three runs to make it 5-0. Briana Marcelino got it started with a double to right field, scoring Lauren Benson. Marcelino later came around to score on a ground out by Hastings. Sanden hit a double to left field, scoring Reese Guevarra.
Hastings added to the lead in the fourth with a single to score Guevarra pushing the lead to six.
Delaney Nagy came in relief for O'Neil in the fifth inning. She pitched two innings striking out one.
The Rams scored three in the fifth. The Huskies responded quickly in the bottom half of the inning scoring two runs. Marcelino and Guevarra hit a pair of singles to put the Huskies up 8-3.
The Rams scored two runs in the sixth to trim the lead. Marcelino once again delivered for the Huskies with a grand slam to left center, giving her six RBIs on the day and the Huskies a 12-5 lead.
The Rams would score three runs in the seventh, but it wasn't enough to beat the Huskies.
UConn will be back in action tomorrow against Fairfield at 6:00pm.
