HookC Takes Home Opener, 8-3

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (9-1) won its home opener, 8-3, against Hartford to win its eighth game in a row on Tuesday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark.
The Huskies played sloppy in the early innings on defense but a caught stealing and a Hawks runner was gunned out at the plate to keep Hartford off the scoreboard.
UConn responded with three RBI singles from Zach Bushling, T.C. Simmons and Ben Huber to jump out to a 3-0 lead.
Erik Stock extended his hit streak to 21 games with a two-run single in the second to make it 6-0.Â
Hector Alejandro made his first career start on the mound and pitched two scoreless innings to earn his first career victory.Â
Bobby McBride, Brady Afthim and Braden Quinn all pitched scoreless innings out of the bullpen to help the Huskies move to 9-1 on the season.
David Smith led the way with a three-hit day while Zach Bushling added a pair of hits.
Next up, the Huskies head on its Spring Break trip to Southern California. UConn will play 8 games in 11 days with the first game coming on Friday, March 11 at Pepperdine at 5 p.m. ET.
