HookC Heads to Miami to Play FIU

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The UConn baseball team (5-1) open a three-game series at Florida International University on Friday, March 4 at 7 p.m. at the FIU Baseball Stadium. Friday and Sunday's (12 p.m.) game can be seen on CUSA.tv and Saturday's (6 p.m.) contest can will be on the UConn baseball Instagram page (uconnbsb). All three games will have audio stream on MIXLR.
The Huskies are off to a 5-1 start to begin the season, their best start since starting 5-1 during the 2010 season. Prior to the 2010 season, the best start for the Huskies was winning the first six games of the 1971 season. UConn started by winning its first 14 games that year.
Austin Peterson is off to a great start on the mound, recording 23 strikeouts and just one walk in his two starts this season. The right-hander ranks third in the nation in strikeouts and his 23:1 strikeout to walk ratio is the best among starting pitchers with over 20 strikeouts.
The Huskies are coming off a three-game road sweep of UNF last weekend in Jacksonville. UConn outscored the Ospreys 22-5 to take the first two games of the series and then gutted out a 5-3, extra-inning victory to secure the sweep.
UConn is 2-1 all-time against FIU with a series win in Miami back in 2015. Carson Cross dazzled in the series opener with a pitched a complete game and logged 15 strikeouts in his outing. It is tied for most strikeouts for a UConn starting pitcher in the Jim Penders era (Ben Casparius, 2021). Anthony Kay notched a victory with six innings of work, no walks and seven strikeouts to clinch a series win for the Huskies.
