Softball set to square off against Butler this weekend

Indianapolis, IN – UConn (18-12) travels to Butler (18-10) for a crucial three game series. Both teams sit at the top of the BIG EAST standings with UConn in first place and Butler in a close second.
The Huskies have started off BIG EAST play strong holding an 8-1 record so far. They have gotten production at the plate, on the mound, and on defense. In conference play, the Huskies as a team have a .309 batting average with 12 home runs. They have stolen a league high 27 bases through nine conference games. On the defensive side of the ball UConn has been stout with a .973 fielding percentage, which ranks second behind Butler.
The pitching staff has turned it on in conference play. As a staff they hold a 2.18 era, with 62 strikeouts. Freshman Elise Sokolsky received BIG EAST honors this week for her performances against DePaul and Army last week. She finished the week 3-0 with 17 punch outs, eight of those coming in a complete game performance against DePaul on Saturday.
Butler is led by a pair of seniors at the plate, Lauren Fey, and Bri Avery who lead the BIG EAST in batting average. On the mound, Butler holds an impressive 2.83 era as a staff on the year. They are led by senior Karli Ricketts.
The series will begin on Friday at 3:00pm. Game two on Saturday is set for 1:00pm. The series finale will be at 11:00am on Sunday. Games on Friday and Sunday will be streamed on FloSoftball.
