STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's track and field will send athletes to a pair of events at the UAlbany Great Dane Classic and at Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic.
The Huskies head to The Great Dane Classic featuring 45 teams on Friday, January 28 at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Center in State Island, NY. The BU meet has been moved from Saturday to Sunday, January 30 due to the incoming weather. Both meets are unscored.
UConn will have Christopher Keegan (West Hartford, Conn.) competing in the weight throw at BU as well as some runners on the track. In the 400 meters, the trio of Wellington Ventura (Cresskill, N.J.), Noah Woodman (Hampstead, N.H.) and Markus Bagley (Jersey City, N.J.) will run. In the 800 meters, Mahamed Sharif (Westbrook, Maine), Stepehn Sutton (Tolland, Conn.) and Marzio Mastroianni (Branford, Conn.) are set to run followed by Eric Van Der Els (Norwalk, Conn.) in the mile and James Maniscalco (Fairfield, Conn.) and Kevin Cawley (Massapequa, N.Y.) in the 3000 meters.
"This is jus a lunch pail group on the men's side," stated Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Greg Roy. "Come in, punch the clock, know how to compete and go out and do it. We have been unfazed by the obstacles that pop up, and were excited getting some guys back last week. We are going to go as far as our talent will take us."
In the national rankings, Terrel Williams (X) enters the weekend ranked 13th in the 60 meter hurdles after a fast 7.81 performance last weekend. Travis Snyder (Saco, Maine), this week's BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week, sits 15th in the pole vault rankings (5.30m). He is 19th in the heptathlon. In the BIG EAST, UConn sits at the top of the rankings in 10 events heading into this weekend.
