O'Brien Wins Twice at Great Dane Classic

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The UConn men's track & field team sent select athletes to compete at the UAlbany Great Dane Classic at Ocean Breeze Track and Field Center Friday afternoon.
UConn junior Joseph O'Brien (Shrewsbury, Mass.) got a pair of wins, the 60 meter dash and 200 meters, to lead the way for five Husky wins on Friday. Freshman Terrel Williams (Maplewood, N.J.) won the 60 meter hurdles and junior Tyler Hrbek (Northvale, N.J.) won the pole vault. Freshman Travis Roux (Northport, N.Y.) was a winner in the weight throw.
On the track…
- Junior Joseph O'Brien (Shrewsbury, Mass.) got a win in the 60-meter dash and did so with a new PR. O'Brien broke the line in 6.88 seconds.
- O'Brien was a double winner on Friday after winning the 200 meters as well, clocking in at 21.65 seconds.
- UConn took first in the 60-meter hurdles as Terrel Williams (Maplewood, N.J.) beat the field with a time of 7.91 seconds. Junior Xavier Smith (West Windsor, N.J.) was third in 8.25 seconds and Nicholas Pronovost (Coventry, Conn.) in fifth at 8.34 seconds.
- In the 1000 meters, junior Joseph Pearl (Manchester, Conn.) took third place and set a new PR with a time of 2:30.39.
- Senior Sean Parker (Bridgewater, Conn.) took third place in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:23.86, a new PR in the event.
In the field…
- Junior Tyler Hrbek (Northvale, N.J.) got his second win this indoor season in the pole vault, clearing a height of 5.00 meters. Freshman Patrick Oatman (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was fourth overall with a height of 4.50 meters.
- Freshman Travis Roux (Northport, N.Y.) got his first collegiate win, taking the weight throw with a toss of 18.33 meters, a new season-best mark.
- In the high jump, senior Daniel Claxton (Nesconset, N.Y.) was second with a height of 2.05 meters.
- Freshmen Kasey Savage (Tolland, Conn.) and Marc Morrison (Orlando, Fla.) were fourth and fifth in the triple jump. Savage had a jump of 14.06 meters and Morrison posted a leap of 13.97 meters, a season-best mark.
