Mooney Finishes Sixth in Decathlon at USATF Outdoor Championships

STORRS, Conn. - Josh Mooney delivered a strong performance in the men's decathlon at the 2026 USATF Outdoor Championships, finishing with 7,495 points to place sixth overall.
He opened the competition by placing ninth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.02 seconds, then finished 12th in the long jump with a mark of 6.71 meters. Mooney followed with a ninth-place finish in the shot put, recording a throw of 13.43 meters, before clearing 1.86 meters to place 10th in the high jump. He also finished 10th in the 400 meters with a time of 50.21 seconds.
The Stonington, Connecticut, native placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.45 seconds. He then finished 13th in the discus with a throw of 37.81 meters before clearing 5.00 meters in the pole vault to earn a third-place finish in the event.
He then placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 56.84 meters before closing the competition with a time of 4:56.74 in the 1500 meters, securing the sixth-place overall finish.
