STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut field hockey team returns to action for a pair of games this weekend, after two games last week were canceled due to weather (Saint Joseph's) and COVID-19 related issues within New Hampshire's field hockey program.
Connecticut will make the short trip to Boston on Friday for a 3 p.m. showdown with Northeastern. The contest will be NU's season debut after the team finished 11-8 and advanced to the CAA Tournament final in 2019. UConn holds a 22-14 edge in the all-time series with its last loss to NU coming in 2004.
The Huskies will return home for their BIG EAST season debut against Providence on Sunday against Providence College. The Friars finished 12-7 in 2019, earning the No. 4 seed in that season's BIG EAST Tournament.
UConn enters the weekend 1-0 on the season, following a 5-0 victory over Hofstra on February 13. Kourtney Kennedy scored two goals and added an assist in the victory. For her efforts, she was honored as the National Defensive Player of the Week. Sophie Hamilton also contributed a pair of goals and added an assist in the rout.
