SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The UConn men's golf team recorded its fourth consecutive Top Five finish and sophomore Caleb Manuel continued his run of impressive performances as the Huskies completed play Tuesday in the Carolina Collegiate Invite.
The Huskies shot an aggregate 5-over, 289-292-288=869 at the Carolina Country Club to earn a fifth-place finish in the 12-team field. High Point captured the team championship with a 19-under 845.
Manuel (Topsham, Me.), coming off last week's individual championship at the UConn Invitational, fired a 5-under, 70-67-74=211, to finish as part of a four-way tie for third place, just two strokes behind individual leader Johnny Travale of UCF.
It marks Manuel's fourth Top 10 finish in four events this year and the seventh of his career. His 67 was his 10th career sub-70 round and he now has 20 career rounds of par-or-better.
Also for the Huskies, senior Jared Nelson (Rutland, Vt.) notched his 15th career Top 20 finish and his 12th sub-70 round as he shot an even-par, 73-75-68=216 to tie for 20th place in the 83-player field.
