UCONN GOLFERS FINISH FOURTH IN HAWAII

MANUEL FIRES HOLE-IN-ONE IN FINAL ROUND

LAHAINA, Hi. – The UConn men's golf team wrapped up the fall portion of its 2021-22 schedule with its fifth consecutive Top Five finish, ending in a tie for fourth place in the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational.
The tourney was filled with highlights for the Huskies, including six sub-70 rounds by senior Jared Nelson and sophomore Caleb Manuel, a hole-in-one by Manuel, and a career-best round by sophomore Jimmy Paradise.
The Huskies shot an aggregate 26-under, 277-272-277=826, tied with Cal State-Northridge for fourth in the 14-team field. Kansas won the event with a 52-under, 800.
Nelson (Rutland, Vt.) was the model of consistency in Hawaii, shooting a 12-under, 67-67-67=201 to finish in a tie for fifth, his low tourney score and best finish of the season. It is the 12th career Top 10 finish for Nelson, his three best rounds of this season and gives him 15 career sub-70 rounds.
Manuel (Topsham, Me.) continued his outstanding fall season with a 10-under, 68-68-67=203, to tie for 10th place, his eighth career Top 10 finish, and his career-best tournament score. The results give the sophomore 13 career sub-70 rounds. His average score of 69.5 per round this season leads the team.
Manuel's Sunday round was highlighted by a hole-in-one, using a 6-iron on the Par 3, 185-yard eighth hole.
Paradise (Tampa, Fla.) shot the best round of his college career when he fired a 7-under 64 in Saturday's second round. It helped him finish in a tie for 26th place with a 2-under, 75-64-72=211. It was the low tourney of Paradise's college career and his third career sub-70 round.
Also competing for the Huskies, sophomore Tommy Dallahan (Simsbury, Conn.) tied for 55th place in the 80-player field with a 6-over, 73-75-71=219, and senior Nick Hampoian (North Reading, Mass.) tied for 68th place with an 11-over, 69-73-82=224.
Competing as an individual, freshman Trevor Lopez (Winchester, Mass.) shot a 1-under, 68-71-73=212, his best round in college, including his third sub-70 round.
UConn will resume its 2021-22 season in mid-February, starting the spring semester portion of its schedule with the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate tournament.
