Softball Set for Midweek Tilt at Hofstra

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball travels up to Hempstead, N.Y. for a Tuesday afternoon road tilt against Hofstra. First pitch is set for 2 pm.

- UConn is led by first-year head Coach Laura Valentino, who took over the helm in July. Valentino was most recently an assistant coach at Duke, which initiated its softball program prior to the 2018 season.
- The Huskies come into Tuesday's matchup fresh off a 4-1 weekend that ended with a JMU Invitational Championship. UConn posted two wins over No. RV James Madison and a run-rule shutout of California in the title game. The Huskies are off to their best start (15-5) through 20 games since the 1992 season.
- As a team, the Huskies have accounted for 156 hits, 129 runs, 112 RBI's, 30 doubles, 13 home runs and a .288 BA. Defensively, UConn has accumulated 124 strikeouts and limited its opponents to just 53 runs, 104 hits through 497 at-bats, and a .209 opponent batting average.
- Redshirt Junior Olivia Sappington captured AAC Player of the Week honors for March 9 following an explosive performance in five games at the JMU Invitational, helping the Huskies go 4-1 on the weekend. The Ashburn, Va., native boasted a .588 batting average while racking up three home runs, 11 RBI's a 1.706 OPS and notched four runs in five starts, including wins over James Madison and a run-rule shutout of PAC-12 opponent California. Additionally, Sappington batted .636 with runners in scoring position during the weekend, pairing that with four multiple-hit games and four multi-RBI outings.
