HARTFORD, Conn. – Despite goals from Jordan Hall and Robin Lapert, UConn men's soccer dropped its Friday night contest, 3-2, to the Columbia Lions at Dillon Stadium. UConn drops to 3-4, while Columbia earns their first win of the season (1-2-2).
After John Denis gave the road team a 1-nil lead off a 22-yard free kick at 14:24, the Huskies responded back relatively quickly with a goal of their own off the head of Hall.
UConn cashed in on a header from Hall at 25:34 to level the score at one. Morgan sent a cross into the box and the senior headed the ball into the back of the cage, despite the best efforts from Columbia keeper Michael Collodi to save it.
Columbia jumped back in front, 2-1, midway into the second frame, as Uri Zeitz converted on a straight-line shot off a touch-pass from Denis.
The Huskies struck again on a set piece in the 81st minute. After a Columbia foul set up a UConn free kick, Harris launched the ball into the box and Lapert sent the header past the diving keeper to even the score, 2-2, at 80:33.
Columbia responded quickly, recapturing a 3-2 lead following Denis' second tally of the night.
With the clock winding down and UConn searching for an equalizer, the Huskies had two opportunities to send the game into extra time. Unfortunately, Cole Venner's attempted cross towards Harris and Felix Metzler was broken up and Jake Dengler's shot at 89:47 was blocked, allowing the road team to escape with a 3-2 win.
