HOUSTON, Texas—The UConn (15-23, 4-7 AAC) softball team contested Houston (28-15, 5-6 AAC) in a tightly played game two of this weekend's American Athletic Conference series.

The Huskies got out to a hot start with leadoff Reese Guevarra smacking a double to left center. On a ground out a few batters later, she took to third base. Kiwi McDaniel mirrored her at bat, sending the double skipping to the same spot on the field. McDaniel brought in Guevarra for the first run of the night.

The UConn defense led by starting pitcher Katie Koshes, kept the Cougars off the board through a pair of innings. Houston's response came in the bottom of the third via a double to right field and single to the shortstop, taking the lead at 2-1.

The Huskies regrouped and close the door on the Cougars in the follow inning. However, Houston broke the drought and tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth.

UConn put together a strong potential comeback in the top of the seventh posting one hit, on one Houston error, leaving two stranded. Olivia Sappington reached on an error by the first baseman, and Kelli Bates entered the game to pinch run for her. McDaniel reached on a fielder's choice with Bates out at second on the play. Alexis Lemus tagged a ball straight to the pitcher and sent McDaniel to second. On a ground out to second base, Lemus and McDaniel moved over into prime scoring position. However, the half inning would close on a pop up to the shortstop before the runners could be brought home.

Koshes (4-7) led the errorless Husky defense through six innings with only four walks against 30 Cougars.

Game Three and the series finale will take place tomorrow, April 14th. First-pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Eastern.
