UConn set to take on Boston College and Houston

STORRS, Conn.—The UConn softball team moves into the second week in April taking on Boston College and Houston. The Huskies will kick off the week in a single game at Burrill Family Field versus the Eagles at 3:00 p.m. They will then travel to Texas for an American Athletic Conference weekend series at the Cougars Softball Stadium.

UConn is currently fifth in the AAC with a record of 4-5 and 15-20 overall, after going 4-2 last week. The Huskies took the rescheduled doubleheader at Hartford with wins of 11-0 and 17-1 behind Marybeth Olson's no-hitter in game one. UConn returned home to Burrill to face UMass in a single game, falling 13-3. The Huskies then picked up their second conference series win of the 2019 campaign, this time against the Tigers of Memphis. UConn took two out of the three games over the weekend.
The Huskies posted six home runs last week from Briana Marcelino, Kiwi McDaniel, Alexis Lemus, Reese Guevarra, and a pair from Carli Cutler. Olson also posted her 100th strikeout through 101.1 innings pitched during last week's contests.
UConn swept the conference weekly awards, with Marcelino being named Player of the Week of the second consecutive week and Olson as Pitcher of the Week for her first outright conference award of her collegiate career. Olson has been named to the weekly honor roll twice this season for her efforts in the circle, and both student-athletes have been acknowledged by the NFCA this season as a part of their 'selected top performances'.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Boston College (11-23, 3-9 ACC) is currently on a six game losing streak and will be desiring to turn the tide in the match up at UConn. The Eagles roster is made up of 18 total student-athletes with the majority of them being freshmen, at 10. Head Coach Ashely Obrest is entering her eighth season as the head coach. Boston College was selected to finish ninth overall in the preseason coaches' poll, and fifth in the Atlantic Division.
Last week, Houston received 19 votes in the ESPN.com/USA Softball weekly poll. The Cougars are currently 26-14 overall and 3-6 in AAC play. Before hosting UConn, Houston will play Texas on Wednesday. The Cougars are a veteran squad touting a 20-person roster with 12 of those student-athletes being upperclassmen. Head Coach Kristin Vesely enters her third season at the helm of a Houston team that is sixth in the conference, just behind UConn.
