MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – The UConn baseball team lost 7-6 to lose the series against College of Charleston on Sunday afternoon at Patriot's Point. The Huskies fall to 3-3 on the season.
UConn trailed early 3-0 but dug themselves out of the early hole. The Huskies scored a pair of runs in the third on a fielder's choice RBI from Mike Woodworth and sacrifice fly off the bat of John Toppa. The bottom of the UConn order was productive for the Huskies with Thad Phillips (2-2, BB, RBI) and Michael Chiovitti (3 BB's) able to get on base for the top of the order.
UConn took the lead in the fourth after four-consecutive free 90's were issued by the Cougars. The Huskies drew three walks and a hit-by-pitch including a bases-loaded walk to Chiovitti to tie the game at 3-3. Woodworth gave UConn its first lead with a two-run single to left.
The bullpen could not hold the advantage for the Huskies, though, allowing three runs and one inherited run.
CJ Dandeneau was solid with a career-high 3.2 innings and six strikeouts to keep the Huskies within striking distance.
UConn scored a run in the seventh to cut the deficit to one but couldn't manage to plate the tying run.
The Huskies look to rebound next weekend in Conway, S.C. with games against Northeastern, Indiana, Coastal Carolina and Illinois.
