STORRS, Conn. – The UConn swimming and diving team opened its 2019-20 campaign with a pair of dual meet wins against Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium.
The women captured a 153-107 victory while the men scored a 156-121 triumph.
"Today was a great way to start the dual meet season, said head coach Chris Maiello. "Our team has been training at a high level and it was good to see them execute at a high level today. We have a long way to go, and a lot of aspects of racing to improve on, but today was an encouraging start. Up and down the lineup everyone contributed. Including our divers, they did a great job today. Now we have a few weeks to get back to training and I am looking forward to continuing our student athlete development."

"I am incredibly pleased with our performance today, said head diving coach Josh Arndt. "The energy of the entire team drove us to a fantastic start for the season. The divers have been hard at work making some big changes in their diving and it all came together for our first meet. We have a lot more work to do, but I'm excited about where we're at and where we're going."
Numerous Huskies registered first place races in their first collegiate meet with freshmen Gabrielle Low (100 Back), Caitlin Spencer (200 Back), Mia Galat (200 Fly), Billy Regan (100 & 200 Breast), Jason Lee (200 Fly) and McAllistar Milne (200 IM) all earning wins.
The Huskies return to the pool for their annual Blue vs. White Alumni meet on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 9 a.m.
