Men’s Basketball Drops Road Contest at Tulsa, 89-83

TULSA, Okla. – Playing in its second game of a brief two-game road trip, the UConn men's basketball team fell to Tulsa on the road, 89-83, Wednesday night at the Reynolds Center. The Huskies drop to 10-8 while Tulsa improves to 12-6.
Senior Jalen Adams led the offense with a season-high 27 points, while junior Christian Vital and sophomore Alterique Gilbert pitched in 15 and 13 points apiece, respectively. Vital grabbed a team-leading seven rebounds in the losing effort.
UConn led 9-4 early, but Tulsa used a 12-3 run to take a 16-12 lead almost midway through the first half. After the Huskies regained a 19-18 advantage, the teams traded baskets over the course of the next four minutes before the home team opened up an eight point lead, 38-30, with two minutes remaining. UConn battled back, closing within five points at the intermission, 42-37.
Tulsa held a 52-44 lead despite back-and-forth action to begin the second half, and then extended its lead to 61-44 following a 9-0 run. Again, UConn cut into the deficit and drew within 10, 61-51, with just under 10 minutes remaining. The home team pushed its lead back to double-digits, but the relentless Huskies continued to claw and fight their way back into the game. Jalen Adams scored 20 of his 27 points in the second frame, including a fastbreak layup to draw UConn within six, 82-76, but Tulsa made enough free throws down the stretch to earn the result.

UConn is back home for its next two AAC games, starting with a contest against Tulane on Saturday, Jan. 19, at Gampel Pavilion. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff and will be televised on the CBS Sports Network.
