CINCINNATI, Ohio - The No. 24 UConn baseball team fell on the wrong side of 1-0 pitcher's duel on Friday night at Marge Schott Stadium in one-hour and fifty minutes.
The Bearcat's JT Perez dazzled with a complete game shutout that included just six hits, two walks and 10 strikeouts.
The Huskies had their best chance of the game in the first inning. John Toppa and Zac Susi both singled to place runners at the corners with one out. But Isaac Feldstein struck out and Thad Phillips hit a hard hit ball in the hole at short that Manny Rodriguez made a slick play on to get the out at second.
Mason Feole was equally as good with a complete game of his own with a career-high 14 strikeouts. Mason dominated with his fastball and was able to mix in his off speed pitches late in the game. The only mistake for Feole came in the fourth. Manny Rodriguez hit a solo home run to lead off the inning and that was the only scoring of the night.
Mike Woodworth recorded a multi-hit performance, his 10th of the season.
The Huskies look to bounce back tomorrow at 4 p.m. with sophomore righty Colby Dunlop on the bump.
