Volleyball Edged by ECU, 3-1.

STORRS, Conn. - Redshirt-sophomore Kayla Williams notched a match-high 20 kills as the UConn Volleyball team was edge 3-1 against ECU on Sunday afternoon. Junior Emma Turned recorded a double-double in the match with 47 kills and 13 digs.
The Huskies had three players post double-digit kills, as freshman Ally Barrett and redshirt-freshman Genna Florig joined Williams with 14 and 11 kills, respectively. Defensively, junior Kennedy Arundel recorded 19 digs on the day, while Florig picked up four total blocks in the contest.
UConn battled to a 25-20 victory in set one before dropping the final three sets (25-23, 25-17, 25-20) to the Pirates.
Set One (25-20)
UConn battled back from a four point deficit, 17-14, to overcome ECU in the first set of the day. After finding themselves down through most of the set, Williams served the Huskies to four straight points to knot the score 18-18. The following four points were split between the two teams as the score was once against tied, 20-20. Three straight kills by Barrett and Florig and a pair of attacking errors by ECU provided UConn with five straight points for a final 25-20 win.
Set Two (25-23)
Despite an early 1-0 lead by UConn, ECU quickly notched a 2-1 lead and never looked back. The Pirates recorded a .387 hitting percentage behind 15 kills. UConn was held to a .278 hitting percentage despite seven kills from Williams. The Huskies were able to string together a few scoring runs throughout the set but couldn't close the gap on the high powered ECU offense.
Set Three (25-17)
The Pirates led throughout the entirety of the set as the 25-17 win for the Pirates was the largest margin of victory on the day. ECU posted its best hitting percentage in set three (.415), as a pair of Pirates recorded a team-high five kills apiece.
Set Four (25-20)
Defense was the key to ECU's final set victory. The Pirates defense collected seven total team blocks, led by Toya Osuegbu. Additionally, Osuegbu earned four blocks in the contest. Williams led the way with four kills in the final set but UConn was ultimately held to a .114 hitting percentage. Junior Elizabeth Kline paced all Huskies with three digs.
UConn is back in action next week at UCF in American action. The match is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
