UConn Rolls Past FDU With Second Straight Sweep

STORRS, Conn. - UConn volleyball earned its second straight sweep Saturday night, defeating FDU, 3-0, at the UConn Volleyball Center. The Huskies took the Knights 25-19, 25-17, 25-20 to improve to 5-4 on the season and remain undefeated at home.
UConn opened the match with a strong start, hitting .179 in the first set while recording 14 kills. The Huskies built an early advantage behind kills from Jordyn Hughes, Helena Einarsdottir and Maja Daca before FDU pulled even at 17-17. UConn responded with a 5-0 run to take control, highlighted by an ace from Einarsdottir and back-to-back kills from Daca. Sydney Borowy closed out the set with a kill to give the Huskies a 25-19 win.
The Huskies carried the momentum into the second set, with Borowy and Hughes leading the offensive effort as UConn maintained its advantage and held off the Knights, 25-17. Hughes closed out the set with a kill.
In the third set, the Huskies battled back from a 19-15 deficit with a 9-0 run, sparked by three service aces from Audrey Jensen, to take a 24-19 advantage. Borowy followed with a kill to close out the set, 25-20, and complete the sweep.
Borowy led the Huskies with 13 kills and four blocks, followed by Daca with nine kills and two aces and Hughes with eight kills and two blocks. Maggie Carley and Jensen each recorded three aces, while Sohl led UConn with 29 assists. Akishige and Sohl each posted 11 digs, while Einarsdottir added nine. With her 11 digs, Akishige surpassed 100 digs on the season and now has 106.
UConn returns to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. to close out the East Coast Challenge against Yale at the UConn Volleyball Center.
