TUCSON, Ariz. - After helping the UConn baseball team reach its first NCAA Regional since 2013, junior LHP Anthony Kay (Stony Brook, N.Y.) was selected as a Louisville Slugger Second Team All-American, as announced by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper on Thursday.
Kay, who took home honors as the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year in May, becomes the 22nd All-American in program history, including the eighth under current head coach Jim Penders. The accolade marks the second-straight season a Husky hurler has been named to an All-America team after Carson Cross ('15) received the honor in 2015.
The 2016 American Athletic Conference Championship Most Outstanding Player has put together a 9-2 record in his junior campaign, leading all starters with a 2.46 ERA. The Husky ace ranks third in the league with 108 strikeouts and passed former Husky legend Matt Barnes ('11) to take over as the program's all-time strikeout leader (260).
With 22 career wins in a Connecticut uniform, Kay ranks fourth all-time and his nine-win junior campaign is tied for seventh-most wins in single-season program history. The Stony Brook, N.Y. native has gone at least six innings in 13-consecutive starts.
