STORRS, Conn. - University of Connecticut women's lacrosse head coach Katie Woods announced the team's 2017 regular season schedule Monday, highlighted by seven home games, eight road match-ups and a neutral site meeting at the William G. Tierney Field at the U.S. Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md.
UConn will open its season on the road on Wednesday, February 15th at Fairfield. The Huskies squared off against the Stags in March of 2016 and claimed an 18-8 victory at home at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex. The Huskies will then travel to Maryland for a feature match-up against James Madison University at the U.S. Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md. on Sunday, February 19th.
For the 2017 home opener, UConn will welcome Boston College to the Sherman Complex on Wednesday, February 22, followed by another home contest against New Hampshire on Sunday, February 26. The Huskies will then hit the road for three straight away match-ups before returning home to begin conference play.
After traveling the UMass on March 5, UConn will head to the west coast for a two-game stint in the Golden State when the Huskies take on Stanford (March 11) and California (March 14).
The Huskies open their 2017 Big East conference schedule on their home turf with defending conference champions Florida on Saturday, March 18, followed by Georgetown on Saturday, March 25. UConn will then hit the road for two, beginning with conference newcomer Denver (April 2) followed by Vanderbilt (April 5).
Up next, UConn will welcome Butler, who added women's lacrosse as its 20th varsity sport for the 2016-17 academic year, to the Sherman Complex on Saturday, April 8 before hosting Marquette for a mid-week match-up on Wednesday, April 12.
Following the Marquette game, the Huskies will play back-to-back Saturday's on the road, starting at Cincinnati on April 15 and then at Villanova on April 22. UConn defeated both the Bearcats and the Wildcats at home last season.
UConn will close out the regular season at home on April 29 when the Huskies face off against Temple in a rematch of last year's Big East semifinal game. After the Huskies defeated the Owls 9-8 in overtime during the 2016 regular season, Temple knocked UConn out of the Big East tournament after defeating the Huskies 12-8 in the semifinals at Georgetown.
