BALTIMORE -- Four members of the UConn women's lacrosse program have been invited to the 108-player tryout pool for the 2015-16 U.S. Women's National Team.
Three current Huskies, goalkeeper Shannon Nee (Lancaster, Pa.), defender Lauren Kwasnowski (Kingston, N.Y.) and attacker Grace Nolan (Marcellus, N.Y.), and former Connecticut standout Lauren Kahn (Nanuet, N.Y.) will all compete for a place on the team during the three-day event (June 12-14) at John Hopkins University.
Following the tryout, approximately 36-40 players will be selected to train for the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women's World Cup in Guildford, England. The roster will be cut down to 18 players when the world title gets underway.
Next month will mark the fourth time Kahn has participated in the national team tryout. The former Husky midfielder, who currently serves as an assistant coach for Columbia women's lacrosse, finished her collegiate career second in points (216) and third in assists (73) in school history. She earned IWLCA All-America honors twice while at UConn, and she was tabbed the 2013 Big East Midfielder of the Year as a junior.
Nee will compete in the tryouts for the second straight year after wrapping up her junior campaign earlier this month. The Connecticut stopper tied UConn's school record with 11 victory this past spring, tallying double-digit win totals for the third straight year. She earned Big East Goalkeeper of the Year honors in 2015 after leading the conference in save percentage and saves.
Kwasnowski and Nolan will both be fighting for a spot on the U.S. National Team following two productive seasons for the Huskies this spring. Kwasnowski, the 2015 Big East Defender of the Year, ranked 10th nationally with 1.94 caused turnovers per match, and she tied Nee with a team-high 40 ground balls for a Connecticut team that earned its first Big East postseason victory this year.
Nolan put up historic numbers on her way to being named the league's Rookie of the Year. She led all Big East freshmen and ranked second on UConn with 46 points on 26 goals and 20 assists in 2015. Her 20 assists were the most ever for a Connecticut freshman in school history, and she tallied the most ground balls (17) among UConn attackers in her debut season.
