NEW YORK -- Two UConn women's lacrosse attackers earned Player of the Week awards on Tuesday following Connecticut's upset victory over No. 8 Florida on Saturday. Junior Katherine Finkelston (Leonardtown, Md.) was named Lacrosse Magazine National Player of the Week, while freshman Grace Nolan (Marcellus, N.Y.) was once again tabbed the Big East Rookie of the Week.
Finkelston, who also landed on the Big East Honor Roll this week, sparked UConn's 11-10 comeback win over No. 8 Florida on Saturday, matching a season-high with four goals. She tallied three goals in the first 77 seconds of the second half, and her fourth goal cut the Connecticut deficit to just two (8-6) with 23:50 left in the match.
The Connecticut attacker also added two assists for the Huskies, who earned their first win over a ranked opponent this season with the victory over the Gators. The Huskies rallied from an 8-1 halftime deficit, as they finished their regular season perfect at home for the second time in the last three years.
Finkelston leads all UConn players with 45 points and 31 goals this year. Her 14 assists are the second-highest total on the team, and she has finished a match with at least three goals in three games in 2015.
Tuesday's announcement marks the fourth Rookie of the Week award for Nolan, who finished with three points on two goals and an assist against the Gators. The freshman standout's strong week began on Wednesday when she notched a team-high four points (two goals, two assists) in UConn's setback to Georgetown.
Nolan has totaled a team-best 17 assists in her freshman campaign, and she ranks second on the team in points (40) and third in goals (23). Her 15 ground balls in 2015 are the most among Connecticut attackers, and she has converted four of her seven free position shots on the year.
UConn junior goalkeeper Shannon Nee (Lancaster, Pa.) was also recognized on Tuesday, as she found a spot on the Big East Honor Roll. Nee finished with 12 saves on Saturday, tallying double-digit stops in a match for the fourth time this year. Florida's 10 goals against the Huskies was its lowest scoring output in league play this season. Ă‚Â
The Huskies return to action on Saturday (Apr. 25) for their season finale against Villanova on the road. A win over the Wildcats would give UConn the No. 3 seed in the Big East Tournament, while a loss would eliminate Connecticut. UConn is 6-0 all-time against Villanova in a series that dates back to 2001.
