NEW YORK, N.Y. – The University of Connecticut women’s lacrosse team has been chosen to host the 2015 Big East Women’s Lacrosse Tournament, as announced by the league on Tuesday. The semifinals will take place on Apr. 30 and the championship will be on May 2 at the George J. Sherman-Family Sports Complex on the UConn campus.
This spring will mark the first time UConn has ever hosted the conference’s postseason tournament, which will be broadcasted by the Big East Digital Network (Semifinal Round) and Fox Sports (Championship).
The Huskies, who enter this season with at least 10 wins in each of the last three years, qualified for the Big East tournament for the first time in program history in 2013. After falling to Syracuse in the semifinals, Connecticut returned to the postseason tournament last year. They exited in the semifinal round once again, losing to host Georgetown in Washington, D.C. The Hoyas have hosted the tournament four times, the most among current Big East schools.
UConn sports a record of 16-7 at home over the last three seasons, and the Huskies have gone 6-5 against conference opponents in games played at the Sherman Sports Complex during that stretch. In 2013, Connecticut finished with a perfect home record (7-0) and defeated No. 6 Notre Dame, 10-7, on Senior Day, and last year UConn picked up two wins at home over teams that finished with a winning record.
The past two Big East champions, Syracuse (2013) and Louisville (2014), have both left the league, while Florida and Vanderbilt have joined the Big East as associate members. The Gators, who won 18 games and reached the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2014, play UConn for the first time ever this spring on Apr. 18 in Storrs. Connecticut opens its 2015 campaign with a road game against James Madison on Feb. 15 at 1 p.m.
