Five Huskies Honored as NEIBA All-Stars

STORRS, Conn. - Five players from the University of Connecticut baseball team were named to the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association All-Star Team.
Senior Ryan Fuller and juniors Billy Ferriter, LJ Mazzilli and Scott Oberg were each honored as NEIBA First Team All-Stars, while sophomore Anthony Marzi landed on the Second Team.
All five Huskies are invited to play in NEIBA All-Star game at LeLachuer Park in Lowell, Mass. on Monday, June 4 at 7:00 pm.
Fuller, who played both first and third base this season, finished the year with a .305 batting average, 16 doubles and 37 RBI as the UConn clean-up hitter. Ferriter, and All-BIG EAST First Team selection, batted lead-off and played center field, while hitting .319 with 43 runs and 24 stolen bases. Mazzilli played second base, batted third and led the team with a .339 average, nine home runs and 38 RBI. He was also an All-BIG EAST First Team honoree.
On the mound, Oberg, a right-handed reliever, posted a perfect 5-0 record, registered nine saves and a 0.99 earned run average. He was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team and became the first Husky pitcher with a sub-1.00 ERA since Jack Taylor in 1976. Marzi, a left-handed starter, went just 3-8 on the season, but had a 2.55 ERA and threw three complete games.
Senior first baseman Tim Martin was added to the NEIBA All-Star team as a reserve infielder. Martin started at five different positions as a senior and hit a career-best .327 for the season along with 26 runs, three homers and 23 RBI.
