Men's Hockey Falls Short at Bentley, 4-2

Storrs, Conn. - After rallying for two tying goals in the first two periods, the UConn men's hockey team fell short in the end tonight in Waltham, Mass, falling to Bentley, 4-2. UConn drops to 10-17-4 (10-12-2 AHA) while Bentley improves to 10-15-5 (9-11-4 AHA). Sophomore goaltender Garrett Bartus made 28 saves in the loss. Senior Andrew Olson played in his 141st career game to pass current volunteer assistant coach Michael Coppola for first all-time in UConn history.
UConn rallied for tying goals twice in the first two periods to finish the second period tied, 2-2.
Connecticut held an 11-7 shot advantage in the first period but it was Bentley that opened the scoring at 6:38 with a power-play goal by Ben Cloutier.
The Huskies tallied their first tying goal at 5:03 of the second period with senior Justin Hernandez's third goal of the season. Hernandez saw assists from freshman Billy Latta and Olson. Latta earned his 13th helper on the year with Olson tallying his seventh assist.
Bentley took the lead once again on the power-play at 14:16 of the middle stanza. Bentley's leading scorer Erik Peterson scored his 12th goal with assists from Brett Gensler and Mike Switzer.
Connecticut battled back yet again to even the score at 2-2 just 1:33 later. Freshman Brant Harris scored his sixth goal of the season with an assist from classmate Cole Schneider. Harris now has points in four-straight games while Schneider upped his team-leading points total to 28 with his 17th assist of the season.
After two periods, UConn held the edge in shots, 25-19.
The Falcons took the lead for good with a goal from Justin Breton 8:44 into the third period.
UConn was outshot in the final 20 minutes, 13-8.
The Huskies pulled Bartus at 19:00 looking for the equalizer but shots from Latta, Olson and Schneider were all saved by Bentley goaltender Kyle Rank. The Falcons added an empty-net goal at 19:53 from Gensler to finish the scoring.
The two teams will finish the season series with a 7:05 p.m. contest at Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum on Saturday night.
