Jeute Lifts No. 4 Field Hockey Over Princeton, 3-1

STORRS, Conn. - Sophomore forward Anne Jeute scored twice to lead the No. 4 University of Connecticut field hockey team past Princeton by a 3-1 score on Sunday afternoon at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs. With the win, UConn improves to 13-1 on the season while the Tigers slip to 5-7.
Connecticut has now beaten Princeton in each of the last two seasons. The Huskies also extended their winning streak to a season-high seven games.
Rayell Heistand got the scoring started with her fourth goal of the season 13:57 into the contest. Two-time BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week Chloe Hunnable penetrated into the circle and hit an outlet to Heistand at the top of the circle. Heistand drilled a low shot past Christina Maida to give the Huskies a lead they would not relinquish.
Jeute's first goal came at 36:23. Connecticut was awarded a penalty corner and senior defender Jestine Angelini nailed a shot from the top of the circle towards the corner of the goal. Jeute was there waiting to redirect the shot into the back of the net to give the Huskies some insurance.
The Tigers cut the UConn lead in half when Sydney Kirby connected on a feed from Alyssa Pyros at 41:17 but that was as close as Princeton would get.
Jeute's unassisted tally came with 3:16 to go and was right after the Husky defense has played a player down for five minutes due to Alicia Angelini being hit with a yellow card.
The Meerbusch, Germany native got past the defense near the baseline and flicked a high shot, which beat the Princeton defense and squelched any hopes of a Tigers comeback.
Connecticut out-shot the Tigers by a 13-8 count while Princeton held a 6-4 edge in penalty corners.
Sarah Mansfield stopped five shots for UConn while Maida made three saves for Princeton.
The Huskies are back in action on Wednesday, October 19 when the team welcomes Boston University to Storrs. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
