HARTFORD, CONN. (December 22, 2010) - Kemba Walker scored 20 points to lead the fourth-ranked University of Connecticut men's basketball team to an easy 81-52 victory over Harvard University Wednesday night before a crowd of 11,255 at the XL Center.
The Huskies have now won their first 10 games this season, while the Crimson slip to 7-3.
Walker, who has scored at least 20 points in nine straight games, started slowly, scoring just seven points in the first half, but finished shooting eight-of-17 from the field. He added four assists in the contest.
Connecticut held the Crimson without a point for the game's first 6:42 and without a made field goal for the first 8:07 (0-for-12) of playing time. The Huskies led 11-0 and increased their lead to 27, at 48-21 at intermission. Connecticut shot 55 percent from the field in the first half, holding the Crimson to just 23 percent accuracy in the opening stanza.
The Huskies allowed the Crimson to inch within 19 in the second half before pulling away again in the second half.
Jeremy Lamb scored 11 points for Connecticut, while Alex Oriakhi had 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Roscoe Smith had nine points and seven rebounds, while Shabazz Napier had nine points and set a career standard with six assists. He added a game-best four steals.
The Huskies shot over 50 percent in both halves in the contest, while holding the Crimson to just 30 percent shooting. The Crimson made just four-of-31 three-point attempts and had their 17 turnovers converted into 21 Husky points.
Keith Wright led the Crimson with 18 points, while Laurent Rivard had 12 and Brandyn Curry had 10.
The Huskies will next travel to play at league foe Pittsburgh on Monday, December 27 at 8:30 p.m. in the BIG EAST opener for both schools. The contest will be nationally-televised by espn2.
