McMahon Adds Six to 2010 Lacrosse Recruiting Class

STORRS, Conn. - Six student-athletes are set to join the 2010 University of Connecticut lacrosse team as announced by head coach Angela McMahon on Tuesday. The group includes players from as near as West Hartford, Conn. and as far as El Cajon, Calif. There are two midfielders, two goalies, an attack and a defender set to join the Huskies for the upcoming season.
Elizabeth Brown (West Hartford, Conn.), a midfielder, was a three-year letterwinner at Conard High School and served as team captain as a senior. She was twice an all-conference selection and earned a spot on the All-Hartford Courant Team as a senior. Brown was the Title IX Award recipient for the most outstanding female athlete as well as receiving the Lance Corporal Lawrence Phillipon Memorial Award at the conclusion of her final season.
She participated in the National Tournament on the Lower New England Team as a junior. In addition to her time at Conard High, Brown also competed with the Connecticut Super Juniors and CT Senior All-Stars.
As a four-year varsity swimmer at Conard, Brown earned all-conference and all-state accolades each year. She competed at the State Open for four-straight years and graduates as a three-time school record holder. Brown led the Conard team to the conference and state championships as a junior. She was the team captain as a senior.
A four-year letterwinner in both soccer and lacrosse, Colleen DeRonda (Black River, N.Y.) was a four-year starter in both sports at Carthage Central High School. She will begin her collegiate career at UConn as a sophomore after transferring from LeMoyne College. DeRonda was a four-time NYSPHAA Scholar-Athlete and a two-time Academic All-American at Carthage. She was an all-league honorable mention as a freshman and pulled in first-team league all-star accolades as well as a spot on the all-north first-team for three seasons.
DeRonda led Carthage to back-to-back Class B NYS Finals as well as consecutive Section III Class B Championships. She was the 2008 Al Dingman Award for Commitment Recipient while leading Carthage as a team captain. DeRonda also played lacrosse with the Star Riders Club as a junior and senior.
In soccer, she was a three-year captain and a four-time NYSPHAA Scholar-Athlete and first-team league all-star. DeRonda was a back-to-back First-Team Section III All-Star (2006;2007). She was twice named to the All-North Second Team and was a 2007 first-team selection. In 2005, she was named an alternate to the Empire State Games squad.
En route to a 2009 NYS Class B second place, Lauren Hayes (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) led Yorktown lacrosse to the 2009 Class B Regional and Section I Championships as the goalie. She was a 2008 All-Section I Honorable Mention after guiding the team to the Class B Title. As a senior, Hays was named to the NYS All-Tournament Team in addition to all-section honors. She was a 2009 All-American Honorable Mention and was named to the U.S. Lacrosse All-American First Team.
A four-year letterwinner in volleyball and basketball, Hays was a two-time all-league selection in volleyball (2008; 2009) and team captain of the basketball squad in 2008. She was a NYS Scholar-Athlete for three years and a member of the National Honor Society.
Shannon Kerr (Caledon, Ont.) is the first international recruit of McMahon at lacrosse and joins the Huskies after playing five years of lacrosse at the Berkshire School in Sheffield, Mass. Kerr was a 2008 member of the Lower New England Team and a New England Prep School All-Star. She was the 2009 team captain at Berkshire. Kerr competed with the U19 Canadian National Team at the 2007 World Cup and played for Team Ontario from 2003-06.
In field hockey, Kerr led Berkshire to the Division II Championship Title in 2008. She was a four-year letterwinner field hockey as well as playing three years of varsity ice hockey.
As a three-time captain (2007; 2008;2009) at Granite Hills, Kacie Lewis (El Cajon, Calif.) graduated as the record holder in every statistical category. She was selected to the All-San Diego First-Team in 2009 as well as a first-team all-league selection from 2007-09. Lewis was named to the Top 25 Players West of the Mississippi List by Westsidelax.com. At Granite, she was nominated for the junior and senior athlete of the year award.
She was selected to the Surf, Sun & Styx All-Tournament Team as well as the All-Star Starz Jamboree Team. While participating at the 2008 Northwestern Camp, Lewis was received the Hustler Award as well as acknowledged as the Best of the Camp.
In field hockey, a two-time varsity letterwinner was voted the 2007 Team MVP as the leading scorer and first-team all-league selection. She received the CIF Sportsmanship Award in addition to serving as the team captain in 2007 and 2008. Lewis was an Academic All-American at Granite and was a scholar athlete from 2007-09.
Brittney Testa (Bridgewater, Vt.) led Kimball Union Academy to three-consecutive Lake Region Titles as the goalie. She was selected as a New England Prep School All-Star as a sophomore, junior and senior. Testa was named to the CNEGLI All-Tournament Team and was a NEPL All-Star as a sophomore. As a junior, she was named a Elite 300 All-Star. In 2007 and 2008, she was named to the UNE First-Team at the National Tournament.
She played three years of varsity soccer at Kimball Union Academy and captained the Team Vermont ice hockey team as a junior. She played four years of ice hockey with the Vermont squad.
This group of student-athletes joins the 10 additions to the 2010 lacrosse team announced in November.
