STORRS. Conn. - Freshman Anna Wallingford (Littleton, Colo.) has been named to the WomensLacrosse.com Honor Roll as announced on Wednesday. The rookie goalie led the University of Connecticut lacrosse to a pair of BIG EAST victories last weekend and was named the conference defensive player of the week on Tuesday.
It was the first conference accolade for the Littleton, Colo. native and this is the first time she has been honored by WomensLacrosse.com.
Wallingford led the Connecticut defense in holding Louisville to below its goal scoring average on Sunday. She made eight saves, facing 27 shots in the Huskies' 8-7 victory. Wallingford started the weekend with five saves in UConn's 11-9 win over Cincinnati on Friday. She won a draw control against the Bearcats as well.
She has started for the Huskies in the last five contests and after last weekend's solid play dropped her season goals-against average by two. Wallingford leads UConn with an 11.24 GAA and has a team-best .457 overall save percentage. She has seen the most action in the cage, playing 405:46 minutes this season.
Wallingford and the rest of the Huskies continue the season on the road with a pair of BIG EAST games this weekend. On Friday, UConn travels to Loyola (Md.) for a 4 p.m. game followed by a 1 p.m. contest at Georgetown on Sunday.
