USAFA, Colo. - For the second night in a row, a third period goal put Air Force ahead of the University of Connecticut men's hockey team as the Huskies (6-22-1, 5-15-1 Atlantic Hockey) went on to fall to the Falcons, (19-7-2, 16-4-2) 4-1 at the end of regulation, for the third time this season. Air Force's Jacques Lamoureux recorded a hattrick on the night including the game winning goal.
Sophomore Matt Pedemonti (Enfield, Conn.) scored the Huskies lone goal on the night. His goal was his third of the season and the second in as many games. Pedemonti was the only Husky to record a point in both of the games of the weekend series against Air Force.
The Falcons took the lead first for the third time in four games against UConn when Lamoureux, Atlantic Hockey's leading point getter and goal scorer, got Air Force on the board at 1:43 in the second.
UConn didn't let that lead last for long though when Pedemonti, with some help from freshman Chris Waterstradt (Tulsa, Okla.) and sophomore Brian Reagan (Ballwin, Mo.) scored a power play goal to tie the game up at one-all. Reagan returned to the lineup for the first time since January 6 after suffering a concussion at Sacred Heart and got straight to work recording his fourth assist of the season. Waterstradt's assist was his second of the season for UConn.
The score remained the same until the third period when UConn felt deja vu after allowing the game-winning goal in the first half of the third period for the second night in a row. This time Lamoureux netted the game-winner at 5:32 for his second goal of the game.
With goaltender junior Beau Erickson (Hinton, Iowa) pulled at the end of the game, Lamoureux was able to record his hattrick on an empty net power play goal at 19:02 in the third. In the final 10 seconds of the game Sean Bertsch added the nail in the coffin for Air Force's fourth goal of the night, also an empty netter. Erickson finished the game with 32 saves.
UConn is back in action next weekend at home on Friday and Saturday February 13 and 14 for a series with Mercyhurst where they will meet the Lakers for the third and fourth time this season. The games will begin at 7:05.
