HARTFORD, Conn. -
Connecticut Head Coach Jim Calhoun
"I was really happy with the way the kids played today...because you're going into the game with seven scholarship players."
"My major concern was the foul situation. I was worried that we could get into a foul game. Last year we had a tougher time with AIC. We just shot the ball so well and I think we had the first 12 or 14 rebounds...just really rebounded the heck out of the ball, and ran pretty well."
"When you make shots, the game comes easy. And we made shots."
"We let up near the end, but overall, I'll take that effort for the first time out."
"The offense didn't come necessarily out of our execution; it came out of our talent more. That's not that bad, but we're going to run into talented teams, so we really have to sharpen that up."
"I thought we made bad passes, but we took good shots."
"I thought we got up and down the court. First game, you get a little fatigued and you're playing only seven guys, but that didn't seem to be a factor to us at all."
On Jamaal Trice
"I thought Jamaal Trice did a great job defensively."
On Kemba Walker
"Kemba shot the ball well and played terrific."
On Stanley Robinson
"He thought he had a bad game."
On Alex Oriakhi
"We're trying to get him between power and finesse. When he's all finesse, that's too much muscle wasted."
Alex Oriakhi
"I was excited. My focus was grabbing as many rebounds as I could. I knew my point guards would give me the ball."
"I'm happy, but never satisfied. Coach said 'it's only going to get harder from here.'"
Kemba Walker
On 12 assists
"Having Stanley [Robinson] out there makes it so much easier for me."
On Alex Oriakhi's performance
"It's good for him. It gives him confidence for better games. It makes us confident in him."
Gavin Edwards
"It's an exhibition game. We did make a lot of stupid mistakes. We need to work on that. When we play bigger and better teams, they're not going to let us get away with that."
"We're going to work out all of the kinks and just get better all around."
Stanley Robinson
On Alex Oriakhi's performance
"I'm really encouraged. I knew he had it in him. He was a beast."
"We had to come out and play as hard as we can play and prove it out on the court. I think we did that."
On Kemba Walker
"He's too fast! He's on my team so I can't complain that much. He's doing everything he has to do as a point guard."
Jamaal Trice
On First Game
"I wasn't nervous at all. I'm never going to forget it. I was so happy out there."
