Rowing Takes On Trinity And Coast Guard

COVENTRY, Conn. (April 5, 2008) -- The University of Connecticut novice eight boat came in first place to highlight its day in races against Trinity and Coast Guard.
The UConn novice eight finished first in that race followed by Coast Guard, Trinity and the UConn novice.
The UConn novice eight boat consisted of Hailey Rosa (Mansfield, Conn.), freshman Julie Tibbetts (East Lyme, Conn.), freshman Efmorfia Efthimiou (Stonington, Conn.), sophomore Sylvia Czupi (Woodbridge, Conn.), freshman Kim Weber (Ridgefield, Conn.), sophomore Margaret Hoagland (Chaplin, Conn.), sophomore Lizzie Littlewood (Mystic, Conn.), freshman Amanda Cote (Wakefield, R.I.) and freshman Robin Calhoun (Evanston, Ill.).
The Husky B boat in the race was Sofia Medina (Hartford, Conn.), freshman Taylor Pence (Vienna, Va.), freshman Brittany Koether (Orange, Conn.), sophomore Jackie Ortuso (Somerset, N.J.), freshman Isabella Draper (Bridgeport, Conn.), sophomore Allison Cote (Granby, Conn.), sophomore Lynn Dusault (Somerset, N.J.), freshman Brittany Schramm (White Bear Lake, Minn.) and and sophomore Manouchka Sanon (Ramapo, N.Y.).
The varsity four came in a solid second, behind Trinity but ahead of Coast Guard. That boat was sophomore Hayley Percy (Woodbridge, Conn.), Percy, junior Stephanie Bryant (Natick, Mass.), freshman Brittany Weiss (New Milford, Conn.) and senior Katie Beasley (Centerville, Mass.).
The second varsity eight struggled, as they came in well behind Trinity. That boat was he UConn boat was sophomore Leah Masopust (Morris, Conn.), sophomore Jennifer Reynolds (South Hero, Vt.), senior Maddie Bey (South Windsor, Conn.), freshman Audrey Squire (Kinnelon, N.J.), sophomore Lizzie Dargie (Waterford, Conn.), sophomore Charisse Laughery (Columbia, Conn.), sophomore Liz Harsley (Riverdale, N.J.), sophomore Mikey Sevick (Simsbury, Conn.) and senior Allyson Zoppa (East Hartford, Conn.).
In the varsity eight race, Trinity won over Coast Guard in second and UConn in third. Trinity is ranked first in the country in NCAA Division III. The UConn boat was senior Katie Beasley (Centerville, Mass.), junior Kathy Les (South Windsor, Conn.), senior Olga Solovyova (New London, Conn.), freshman Gretchen Stern (Rexford, N.Y.), sophomore Sarah Willhoft (Manchester, Conn.), senior Monica Parker (Glastonbury, Conn.), sophomore Katie Rauscher (Manchester, Conn.), sophomore Rebecca Likar (East Lyme, Conn.) and junior Heather Gates (Monmouth Beach, N.J.).
UConn returns to action on Sunday when it takes on Fairfield at Coventry Lake at 9:00 a.m.
