Rowing Finishes Sixth At BIG EAST Championship

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (April 27, 2008) -- The University of Connecticut rowing team finished in sixth place at the 2008 BIG EAST Championship on Sunday. Notre Dame won the team title with 123 points, followed by Louisville (105), Syracuse (92), Georgetown (85), Rutgers (67), UConn (64), Villanova (44) and West Virginia (28).
UConn advanced to the final of the varsity eight race and finished in fifth place in a time of 7:02.18. Notre Dame won that race in a time of 6:43.60. UConn was second in its preliminary heat in 7:01.29.
The Huskies also advanced to the finals of the second varsity eight, where they finished in sixth at 7:19.86 while Notre Dame won at 6:51.80.
UConn made its way to the finals of the varsity four, where it finished sixth in a time of 8:18.95. The Huskies were fourth in the novice four at 9:09.7 and were sixth in the second varsity four at 8:37.86.
The Huskies earned a spot in the novice eight final and finished sixth in 7:42.07.
UConn concludes it season on May 9-10 when it travels to Philadelphia for the Dad Vail Regatta.
